Even before the Carvalho mess most were saying we'd had a good window including the media. This Carvalho mess seems like it was just a rogue deal whoever was involved in brokering it and the bullshit spun after was just to deflect from both teams mistakes.

There is no way we can tell if it would have made any difference had he signed but I do know spending another 40m extra would have made no difference to those who have an agenda and if we had spent it and were still placed where we are then it would have been the poor investment and decisions by the board being rolled out.

Re: Brady throws Bilic under the bus!
Being backed heavily in the PL is not having a fixed budget and getting whoever you want like Man City do to create a winning team. Our owners give our managers the going amount for PL clubs and expect them to polish a turd and even have the bollocks to demand top ten finishes on the back of being in a big stadium that a top ten side deserves to be playing in.

Limitation is what they offer and dress it up as extravagance on their part when all around them have about the same funds to work with.

We need to over pay purely to get better players in as we have had a history of being happy just to be in the top flight.

Ha ha ha ha!

Sometimes when i open a political thread I think I have walked into a meeting of the Monday club.

Anybody who gives a different opinion is rounded on by the pack of hyenas. and subjected to virulent abuse.

NB: I am not a Labour apologist or a remainer.

I'm only pointing this out to offer an alternative view on the owners insisting they back Bilic as much as could reasonably expected. A backing which included replacing Payet with Snodgrass, and blowing a sure thing with Carvalho, as a couple of examples.

Re: Brady throws Bilic under the bus!
Firstly Lee, nobody has said he'd turn us from relegation candidates to CL contenders. Secondly, I wouldn't blame Bilic from not having a back up when Carvalho had apparently agreed personal terms and was ready to join us as soon as the money men had worked out a deal. It seemed it was just about a done deal; at least that was the message coming from Carvalho's camp, with him posing with his mate who was flashing a Hammers sign.

"The Carvalho situation is a bit odd. I get that he was Bilic's first choice and the club sold to get the finances, but when proving difficult to complete, where was his second choice?"

I think that's a very valid question. If Carvalho was such this massive piece of the jigsaw that would have turned us from relegation candidates into Champions League Winners, then there should have been a back up option.

Also, if £40m was such a fair price, then why was no one else in for the next ballon d'or? Wouldn't £40m make him one of, if not the most, expensive defensive midfielders ever?

Jaan

Our Dms are big and physical, but lose possession so much, and often in dangerous areas. Carvalho is big, strong and rarely loses possession, finding simple passes with ease and often spotting good offensive passes. If only we had him in the 15/16 season to go with Payet, who knows how well we would have done then.

We certainly would have done no worse this season than we have, and that's my harshest most pessimistic guess.

Forgive me for not having read through the entire thread but the first two questions that I have are a) is she referring to net spend (as in we made a £15m profit on Payet) and b) How many people have pointed out that the owners are making a minimum of £12m in interest from supposedly bailing us out? I'll pipe down of these have already been addressed. Ta

Judging by the success rate of Bilic's transfers over his reign, I can't say I'd have expected him to vastly improve us, especially as he is only a defensive midfielder. We have the same midfield choices now that were here when he earned us 7th. The major difference since then is the loss of Payet, who created over double the amount of chances any other player in the team created, making us deadly on counter attacks.

You can say all you like on her "eloquent" piece.

Not just about the money there are so many holes in it, but nothing in their accepting any blame for their poor decision making which is rife in all areas.

If you truly believe there is nothing wrong here then you are gullible, easily led, believe everything the BBC tell you.
You just haven't worked it out.

Re: Brady throws Bilic under the bus!
Alex is right on some of the things he is saying, if you want to remove the passion for a moment, most posters on here were more than happy with our transfer dealings on paper, it's only when they didn't materialise as expected or Bilic didn't know how or where to play them (see Snodgrass) that the real problems began. Truth is our transfer dealings were ok, certainly not the next level, but sad as it is, Bilic didn't make it happen and only time will tell if Moyes not only gets things moving but also gets the best out of our transfer players. I'm wondering if the board felt our transfer window was the next step towards getting to the next level, problem is we have gone backwards

I am not a fan of the GS & B, but some of the comments on this site border on hysteria. To go against the party line on here on this subject, is as heretical as saying you voted remain or that you support Labour.

Lily Hammer 3:36 Sun Nov 12
Re: Brady throws Bilic under the bus!
Without going overboard on Carvalho, he is far superior to anything we have in that position, and a quality defensive midfielder who can pick a pass is worth his weight in gold, these days.

Lily Hammer 3:13 Sun Nov 12

That's fair comment. I broadly disagree though. I think they were ready to get Carvalho at the right price (ie not £40m). I don't agree there was much focus on that position - Bilic had two years to push for a player there. When he had Song he didn't play him much, nor did he play Obiang as much as he might. I think Bilic should have taken Krychowiak - a huge mistake. I think many fans have turned Carvalho into something they feel is hugely significant, but I see it as an expensive and rather over-ambitious transfer target that didn't work out.

What I do agree with, is that the owners by the end of the window were probably in serious doubts over Bilic like most of us. Sullivan has said that maybe he should have changed manager in the Summer - I think that's a mild version, and he is probably certain with hindsight that he should have.

Alex,

You are right that this is about PR rather than accuracy. Under either measure though it fails miserably.
